DARWARS Training Systems



DARWARS Training Systems are “off the shelf” experiential training modules already developed by a number of partners within the DARWARS program and aimed at specific military skills. DARWARS Training Systems can be deployed without the DARWARS Core, although the combined Enterprise Solution offers even more capabilities. The systems and tools that are part of the DARWARS family demonstrate a variety of new techniques for student feedback, intelligent tutoring, in-the-field authoring, automatic AAR generation, student motivation, and information display. 2-sigma Digital Tutor
The Acuitus mission is to develop a Digital Tutor that will dramatically outperform school house instructors, bringing the excellence of Command Training Center training to a broad spectrum of sailors at modest cost. Specifications include improving student outcomes for existing courses by 2 sigma (C students perform at the A+ level) while significantly reducing the time to train, moving beyond rote memorization to teach deep understanding and problem solving skills – addressing even the most challenging subjects – and tuning training, in detail, to the strengths and weaknesses of the individual student. DARWARS Ambush!
DARWARS Ambush! is a PC-based convoy team trainer developed by BBN Technologies in cooperation with Total Immersion Software and Savage Entertainment. This engrossing training environment employs human observer controllers and incorporates the ability to capture knowledge and create new scenarios in the field. After six months of rapid development, DARWARS Ambush! is now being deployed in Iraq. It provides a variety of ways to train, including a multi-player environment and support for synthetic team members and opposing forces. ambush.darwars.net

 

 
STRATA, VECTOR and VIPERS
Through a novel integration of synthetic agents, intelligent tutoring, speech understanding, and scenario-based training, CHI Systems' STRATA (Synthetic Teammates for Realtime Anywhere Training and Assessment) offers an innovative approach to deployable, distributed training. Through use of synthetic agents, STRATA provides effective, engaging, on-demand practice for both individuals and teams, even when all the members of the team are not available. Joint Task Force Trainer
MÄK Technologies has developed a networked HLA federation of COTS PC-simulations (MAGTF-XXI, Unreal® SEAL, and Sonalysts’ Fleet Command) that allow multiple teams to practice a variety of tactical learning experiences, together. www.mak.com.

 

 
Fleet Command
Fleet Command is a PC-based microsimulation that uses command-level artificial intelligence in the execution of naval strategy, tactics, and resource allocation through the development of intuitive scenarios. This combat microsimulation presents realistic graphical depictions, a real-time strategy ability, and accurate modeling and simulation of the maneuvering and combat system capabilities of US, Allied, neutral and potentially hostile naval forces. Fleet Command contains a powerful mission editor and modifiable databases, and has been networked successfully using the HLA/DIS protocols. Tactical Language and Culture Training System
The Tactical Language Training System provides integrated training in foreign language and culture. It employs a task-based approach in which the learner acquires the skills needed to accomplish particular communication tasks, including vocabulary, language, gestures and postures. DARWARS TRAINING TOOLS

Virtual Combat Training Center
The Virtual Combat Training Center (V-CTC) is an intelligent coaching agent that plugs into existing simulations. The agent interprets the simulation event stream data, dynamically evaluates the player’s actions, and provides tailored guidance during the simulation and a diagnostic After Action Review. www.teknowledge.com.

 

Wide Area Visuals for a Simulator in a Box
The mission of this project is to develop a robust multi-projector display and rendering system that is portable, and can be rapidly set up and deployed in a variety of geometrically complex display environments. Vcommunicator Virtual Humans
Vcom3D is developing a modular architecture for avatars that can be modified easily to model different cultures and contexts. The approach will be to separate the “meaning and intent” of character interactions from the culture-specific ways in which individual characters convey this information through speech, gesture, and action. The company is also developing a proof-of-concept authoring tool for creating training simulations that can be tailored for different cultures by embedding virtual characters with appropriate “built-in” behaviors. www.vcom3d.com.
