When:

April 26-27, 2006

Where:

BBN Technologies Cambridge, Massachusetts www.bbn.com

Hotels near BBN.

Directions to BBN.

Who Can Apply:

Anyone who has developed (or is developing) a training system or a game with training potential.

Or anyone who wants to see the military combine pedagogy and game-play to teach and train like it has never been done before.

The Opportunity:

PlugFest! represents the second time DARWARS membership has been opened to non-DARPA-funded participants. Thus, it is an opportunity to join the expanding DARWARS community.

During PlugFest! we will provide access to our integration environment: to our servers, to our API, and most importantly, to our development staff.

PlugFest! will culminate in short technical presentations by the developers to our vision-track members. Also, you will get a chance to show off your game and what you have accomplished.

You should bring laptops, software, and anything else you need to run and modify your systems to participate in PlugFest!

No Cost:

There is no cost to apply for, to register for, or to attend PlugFest!

Sponsors:

DARWARS is funded by DARPA, U.S. Joint Forces Command (USJFCOM), the USMC Program Manager for Training Systems (PM TRASYS), and other DoD agencies.

DARWARS technology and systems were demonstrated at the Interservice/Industry Training, Simulation & Education Conference (I/ITSEC) in 2004 and 2005 (see www.iitsec.org).

PlugFest! 2006!

U.S. government training customers, whose combined budgets reach the multi-billion-dollar level, increasingly are employing experiential training as they continue to cope with both their substantial and rapidly evolving training requirements and with the greater complexity of their missions. In 2002, the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) launched DARWARS, a program to revolutionize the use of experiential training in the military, and to capture and exploit the tremendous technological advances made by the computer-gaming industry.

BBN's DARWARS developers helping PlugFest! 05 attendees integrate their training games into the DARWARS infrastructure.

Harnessing the Training Power of Virtual Experience

DARWARS has achieved significant success towards realizing this goal. Several new serious games have been produced and deployed. The DARWARS Core, a suite of software tools and services, integrates training systems and serious games into a coherent platform for learners and instructors, enabling them to acquire the benefits of experiential training.

Plug Into DARWARS

As more quality training systems become part of the DARWARS platform, DARWARS can deliver more. If you have developed (or are developing) a training system or a game with training potential, we invite you to apply to become part of the DARWARS revolution.

The PlugFest! also offered a "vision track" for business game development professionals, visionaries, and government decision makers to discuss helping the government exploit the huge training potential in today's (and tomorrow's) games.

The DARWARS Advantage

DARWARS is a DARPA-funded program to achieve training superiority, co-sponsored by DoD partners such as JFCOM and PM TRASYS, which is currently transforming training and increasing readiness by harnessing the full power of lightweight experiential training.

DARWARS encompasses two types of training products. The first comprises DARWARS "Off-the-Shelf" Training Systems, experiential training that uses the DARWARS methodology and technology and that delivers powerful and effective training for specific skill sets.

The second DARWARS product is the DARWARS Core, an enterprise-level infrastructure that provides an integrating architecture and powerful tools to track trainees and provide instructor interaction and to manage sequences of training events. These products combine to produce the DARWARS solution, delivering a cohesive, comprehensive, and continuous learning experience.

DARWARS Training is in use at the US Naval Academy, the Ft. Lewis Battle Command Training Center, the Marine Corps Expeditionary Warfare School, several US Special Forces schools, and dozens of other locations worldwide.

Please visit www.darwars.net or contact one of the agencies or contractors involved to learn more about how DARWARS is transforming training.
